Dierks Bentley shared some big news on Wednesday (1/10), announcing the release of his ninth studio album, The Mountain, out in early 2018. Dierks revealed that the album was set in motion this past summer while surrounded by some of his musical heroes at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Telluride, Colorado. Bentley soon returned to the small mountain town for a retreat with his songwriter friends, where he said the writing process for the album came together quickly. The bulk of the album's songs, including the title track were written during the week of that retreat, which Bentley described as the most inspiring creative experience he's ever had.Dierks said, "Telluride just makes you want to reach for your guitar. We all went out there and got completely off the grid...out of our normal element and the grind that happens on Music Row and it was, from the very get-go, magic. We'd wake up every morning, grab a coffee, take the gondola up, watch the sun come up over the mountains, and by 8:30 we were writing. We just wrote non-stop."
