Old Dominion captured “all of those experiences we’ve had over the years rolled into one song,” the band said on Tuesday (August 26) as they shared a clip of “Goodnight Music City.”
“It’s really our love letter to Nashville, Tennessee,” frontman Matthew Ramsey said on stage in the music video that recently premiered. “I’m getting emotional…What a journey.”
Old Dominion — made up of Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, Whit Sellers, Geoff Sprung, and Brad Tursi — pay tribute to Nashville’s Broadway honky tonks, the historic Ryman Auditorium, cowboy boots, rhinestones, musicians building their careers in a “ten-year town,” and more.
“Goodnight Broadway/ Goodnight boots/ Goodnight six string honky tonk grooves/ Turn the stools over, give the floor a sweep/ And rock yourself to sleep/ Singing goodnight tip jar troubadours/ Spitting the truth with the same three chords/ Hang up your rhinestones/ And finish your whiskey/ And goodnight Music City”
“Goodnight Music City” appears on Barbara, the record-setting band’s 13-track album that arrived on August 22. Barbara follows Meat and Candy (2015), Happy Endings (2017), Old Dominion (2019), Time, Tequila & Therapy (2021) and Memory Lane (2023). The reigning Country Music Association Vocal Group of the Year and Academy of Country Music Group of the Year said earlier this year that Barbara is “our most personal record ever.”
“This is the most united we’ve been as a band, from the writing and recording to how we feel about the final product,” Old Dominion said when the record made its debut. “We are so excited to finally share it with you!”
