Kelsea Ballerini knows the importance of self-love and ignoring what others think of your body.
During an appearance on People (the TV Show!), the "Miss Me More" singer gave her support to Lizzo, who has been dealing with an onslaught of negative comments and hateful messages about her appearance since releasing her new single. The R&B singer has opened up about the "hurtful" comments, saying, "This shouldn't be okay."
"When someone, especially with Lizzo's platform, is able to say, 'I'm human and even though I try to put my most confident self forward. As a public figure, this hurts my feelings. I'm human. I have bad days too,'" said Ballerini. "I think when someone at that level is able to do that, it normalizes it." She added, "It helps every person that's at home crying because some troll on the internet told them they looked bad in whatever form or fashion, it makes them go, 'it's not just me, I'm not alone.'"
To Ballerini, self-love is an ever-changing journey but there are days she feels insecure.
"I've really found that for me, finding the things that make me feel confident and rooted that I can go to on days where I wake up and I'm not wanting to be in my skin. Then I'm like, 'Do a workout that makes you feel strong. Go write a song that makes you feel empowered and smart," she said. "Having those things for each person is super important to find."
Ballerini herself is no stranger to internet trolls, even recently shutting down one commenter who told her to "put some clothes on" and others claiming that she was pregnant.
The country star also recently partnered with Aerie for their new AerieREAL campaign, posing in her underwear for campaign photos with "zero retouching," a move she didn't think was possible for her even a few years ago.
"But I'm proud of the personal growth I've had recalibrating my relationship with my body and what feels health, strong, and sustainable for myself and lifestyle. vulnerable? yes, but happy."
